Transportation

By Air: The nearest airport to Mukhalingam is located in Visakhapatnam at a distance of about 160 km. Once you have reached Vizag, you can either hire a direct cab or catch a bus to reach Mukhalingam.

By Rail: The best way to reach Mukhalingam by rail is by taking a direct train to Srikakulam. Once you have reached Srikakulam, you can either hire a cab or catch a bus to reach.
By Road: Being a site of great religious importance, it is well connected to all other cities and towns by road. From Vizianagaram Bus Stand it near to reach temple is 100Km.

This temple, built in the Kalinga architectural style, is located by the Vamsadhara River and is dedicated to lord Srimukha Lingeswara (a form of Shiva), Constructed in the 9th century CE by kings of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty, it contains exquisite sculptures from that period.
The Main Lingam is not of a stone but appeared as a Face (Mukham) from a wood when a Tree was cut.
Srimukhalingam, as the name suggests, is the temple of Lord Shiva, with the Shiva Lingam having the face (Sri Mukham) of the Lord. Secondly, the lingam is a fossil of the trunk of the Ippa (Madhuka) tree with a naturally carved face but not a combination of stone carvings.
The Shiva Lingams do not have Facial Carvings on it like other Shiva Temples.
It is said that the construction of this Temple continued for two full generations.
On the day of Maha Shivaraathri lakhs of Devotees come to this place and have a Holy Bath in the Vamsadhara River and get rid of all their Sins. This Bathing is known as Chakratheertha Snanam.
